First Communion Party Planning
First Communion party planning will focus around the spiritual implications of your child taking their First Communion in church. This can also apply to an adult whom has taken their First Communion upon entering the church. It is called taking the, Sacrament of the Eucharist and is a big part of Catholic Church practices, but is also partaken of by some Protestant and Lutheran churches. It usually occurs around the ages of seven or eight years old and is cause for a big family celebration. Often, the family will gather before or after the actual communion ceremony for a party during which food is eaten, music is played and gifts of a religious nature are given to the child.
Party planning for the First Communion is much like planning any large family gathering. Make sure you have a venue large enough for all of your guests and most likely uninvited guests who feel like dropping in. Enlist some members of your family to help cook up enough food for every one and the menu will probably consist of family favorites depending on your traditions and culture. You'll also need help setting up the party area which depending on the size of the space, may be indoors or outdoors. If outdoors, picnic tables are perfectly fine for guests to use and indoors, simple folding tables will do. There should be a long table against one side of the party area for gifts can be placed. It is up to you whether not you'll have the guest of honor open his or her presents during the party.
Since the guest of honor will be wearing a white dress and a veil, also in white lace you might consider using that as the color theme for your party. White on white can help make a family celebration more elegant and special. White tablecloths, real serving dishes and glassware can also make the celebration more significant. Just be sure to have some helping hands clean up afterward so you can take a break. Good luck with your party planning and have a great First Communion celebration. |
