Hanukkah is a day of great significance for Jews. Since this is also called the festival of lights, so the party planning for this day should complement this ritual.
A special candelabrum is lit for eight days, after sundown. So this light would be the centre of party planning and all your celebrations. You can make special food on this day. There are potato pancakes and various kinds of cheese and doughnuts made for the days. Then there are special recipes with various fillings.
Do party planning with special Hanukkah music with songs like ` Dreidel! Dreidel!` and various others in Hebrew which can be played or you can prepare the children to sing these special songs beforehand. That would lend an authentic air to the occasion and bring in the olden times. Games like Dreidel could be played. This would be fun for the children. Give a talk explaining the history of the festival and give a brief lesson in Hebrew, the language of the Jews and can acquaint all, especially the children in Jewish history, who are as old as the hills and their struggles and what all they have gone through the ages.
Tell the guests to come in traditional Jewish costumes and have dim lighting in the house preferably all candles light.
