Holy Communion Party Planning
In the Catholic church most children will take their Holy Communion around the ages of seven or eight and parents will end up doing a lot of party planning for the celebration. During this event also known as, the Sacrament of the Eucharist, children will wear a white gown with lace veil or a white suit to help symbolize their purity and spirituality. This event is important enough that it often is marked with a big family celebration. Guests will gather at the family's home to eat traditional foods, play music and games and give the guest of honor gifts of a religious nature. These gifts are often simple things such as; bibles, rosaries and religious statuettes.
Before the Holy Communion see which members of your family are willing to help out with the organization of the party. It's likely you'll see a lot of guests, both invited and uninvited, which means you'll need food, seating and plenty of space for everyone.
If it's a sunny warm day you may have the party outside where there will be lots of extra room. If you don't have enough tables many local shops and hardware stores offer them for sale or rental. Simply ask around. Remember to get extra tables to place food on and for gifts the child will be receiving from guests.
Food can be a problem at large events. You can opt to make your own food with the help of family members, organize it as a potluck with everyone bringing a dish of their own or catering the event with food purchased from outside help. Don't worry too much, any choice you make will be the best one for your family and celebration needs.
After the stress of preparing for the first Holy Communion your child will probably see this party as a chance to relax just a little bit. So a relaxed, casual atmosphere works well and is easiest when hosting a big family gathering. |
