If you love Kwanzaa, then Baltimore, Maryland, is the place to visit. The city hosts a number of organized annual celebrations to honor the quintessential African-American holiday.

Defined as a wintertime celebration of family, community and culture in the African-American community, Kwanzaa is a weeklong holiday honored in various ways throughout the world. In Baltimore, Maryland, Kwanzaa celebrations take place at both the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture, at the Baltimore Museum of Art, and at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum.

The Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture may be a particularly good place to celebrate Kwanzaa, as on a year round basis this museum honors the accomplishments and traditions of African-American people through permanent exhibits, film displays, and book discussions, as well as a special celebration to recognize this meaningful holiday.

Of course, no Kwanzaa celebration would be complete without a full range of decorative but reverent party supplies, including balloons, cups, plates, napkins, table covers, and banners that feature the kinara and the unity cup: two popular symbols of the Kwanzaa holiday. One may even want to post a kinara on site at the party, boasting one black candle at the center surrounded on either side by three red candles and three green candles. One of these candles is lit on each day of the Kwanzaa festivities.

Even the take home party favors could be significant, as they could include small books about African-American history or poetry from luminaries such as Maya Angelou, festive candles in various scents and hues, miniature kinaras and unity cups, etc.

An amazing place to visit for Kwanzaa is Baltimore, Maryland; a place where Kwanzaa is celebrated at many places and in many ways—but always with love and respect in the name of tradition.
