Kwanzaa, the quintessential African-American holiday, always should be celebrated in the grandest of styles; and always with the help of some festive handmade party banners.
Homemade party banners for a Kwanzaa celebration should reflect the classic symbols and endless significance of the holiday itself; a weeklong winter celebration of family, culture and community. The host could take a basic banner of paper or tulle and adorn it with painted Kwanzaa symbols such as the kinara candle holder and the unity cup. The cup could be painted in classically colored flourishes of gold, silver, or bronze. A kinara includes three red candles, three green candles, and one black candle at the center, as per Kwanzaa tradition; so be sure to paint its likeness with the use of these hues.
The host also could adorn a handmade party banner with party symbols which represent these classic Kwanzaa symbols. She could affix a sticker, decal or paste-on cutout of a kinara candle holder or a unity cup onto the sign; or perhaps an artful combination of all three.
Another, more basic option would be to hang a homemade party banner that bears stripes (or even individual swirls or fabric samples) in the hues of red, green, and black; representing the candles of the classic kinara.
A handmade Kwanzaa banner should add an ideal accent to any celebration of this very significant African-American holiday. Both beautiful and significant, this banner is not only a decoration—but a symbol of family, culture and community.
